Can You Say Tehaleh?

For many of us Pierce County residents, we've been following the growth of this massive planned community by Newland Communities since it opened in Bonney Lake three years ago. For those around the region who have not been keeping tabs on it, it's worth making note of because it seems to be even more successful than anybody expected. Could this be the new trend in suburban housing developments?

Tehaleh has been far more popular than expected among the 55+ crowd, with roughly 40% of the 450 residents coming from that group. Due to it's popularity, the project developers have asked the county to let them expand the future number of homes from 5,900 to 9,200 even though it will be many years before they reach that level of expansion. The city has concerns about traffic among other things and is still in the process of making its decision. If Newland Communities is willing to cover most of the cost of road expansions and improvements in the area, it could go a long ways towards them getting the result they're looking for.

What makes Tehaleh unique when compared to other suburban housing developments is the focused attempt at maintaining a connection with nature. This development was truly carved out of the forest and they've left a portion of the land in it's natural state with walking trails that intersect all the different neighborhoods and parks in the community. There is an element of upscale country charm present here and they've done a great job creating an environment welcoming to families who may have never previously considered living in a newer housing development. While there still may be some cookies being made here, at least the design of the cookie cutter was made to be different. If you are ever in the area, stop in and say hi to the friendly folks at The Post who will be happy to hand you a map and help you explore.
